Pediatric Sports Medicine
The number of pediatric sports injuries continues to rise. While there is some overlap with adults, many of these injuries are unique to the skeletally immature athlete. As a guest editor invited to oversee this issue, I identified authors who are considered experts in the field of pediatric sports medicine to submit manuscripts. This issue presents review articles addressing the most common pediatric sports-related injuries. In some areas, this is strong evidence that supports injury prevention, treatment options, and surgical management. In others, evidence is still lacking. This comprehensive review serves as an excellent reference for any surgeon managing pediatric sports injury. Future well-designed, prospective, and randomized clinical trials and biomechanical and basic science studies will continue to advance the science in this field.
