Challenges in Technology Integration for Elementary Teachers

Integration of technology in education contributed a great impact in the educational system. This study examines existing literature on the challenges faced by elementary school teachers in the implementation of technology into their classrooms, specifically for young learners aged 5-12 as well as drawing on educational theories to overcome these challenges. The Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework was utilized in identifying gaps encountered by teachers in terms of technology knowledge, pedagogical practices, and subject expertise along with the presented barriers of various theories and case studies such as: technical issues, lack of training, time constraints, limited resources, and concerns regarding appropriate use of technology. Finally, recommendations and possible solutions are also discussed to inform future research and practice.
