Analysis of implementation of portable Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) in the flight deck of a passenger aircraft
As technology is constantly developing, new devices such as Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) appear on boards of airplanes. The aim of this device is to improve work of flight crews. Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) enables better management of information in the cockpit. EFB can be used for different purposes such as navigation, documentation storage, flight data recording, reporting, communication and training. Since the 1990s, EFBs have been used and global market of EFB is continuously increasing, showing its great importance in the aviation industry. Nowadays, EFB is divided into hardware and software. As far as hardware is considered, EFB consists of two types: Portable and Installed. This paper is focused on analysis of implementation of Portable EFB in the environment of the flight deck of a passenger jet aircraft from the pilot’s perspective. The functionalities and limitations of Portable EFB are presented with specific examples.
