Bird Day
One of my favorite books of the year! Bird Day is a thrilling little book for adult readers featuring 24 stories of different birds, with a single bird during a single hour in each chapter beginning at midnight. The illustration collection from artist Tony Angell is a thing of beauty, dramatic and full of motion and intricate detail despite being simply pen and ink. Hauber’s a grand and capacious storyteller, connecting the physiology, behavior, and experience of each chapter’s focus bird to a wide range of history, culture, and ecology. Bird Day is a lovely treat, perfect for a nightstand or coffee table. Additionally, if you or someone you know is more of an amphibian person, the same illustrator has now collaborated with another expert for Frog Day!
