Study of probiotic properties of Enterococcus isolates isolated from natural biotopes

Enterococcus strains were isolated from a natural biotope - the contents of the large intestine of agricultural animals and poultry and evaluated for the possibility of using them as probiotics. It was found that the cells of the studied isolates were immobile, did not contain spores and capsules, and were gram-positive. The isolated strains of Enterococcus spp., according to the Bergey determinant, were assigned to E. faecium (Sr43, Sr47, Sr48, Sr49 and Sr61). All five strains tolerated pH values in the range from 2.0 to 9.0 well, except Sr 61, which did not show resistance to pH 9.0. At a pH of 2.0 to 5.0, there was a slight growth of strain cells. The growth was most intense at neutral pH values (6.0 - 8.0). The Sr 43 and Sr 49 strains turned out to be acid-resistant, their survival rate at pH 2.0 was 5.86% and 5.37%, respectively. An increase in the pH of the medium to 9.2 did not show a significant inhibitory effect. The isolated isolates are able to grow in the presence of 6.5% NaCl. At a temperature of 37° C, the strains showed significant.
