Silver Nanoparticles using catechin as capping agent and their effects as antifouling agent against biofilm forming bacteria

Biosynthesis of nanoparticles comprising of silver was performed by reducing with solution of silver nitrate (AgNO3) and using catechin as a capping agent. The familiar methods used to characterize these nanoparticles were Ultra Violet visible spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Scanning electron microscopy-EDS, XRD and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The antifouling activity of the silver nanoparticles was assessed by MIC on isolated biofilm forming bacteria from Visakhapatnam coast. Out of 10 plant extracts studied, the catechin a secondary metabolite from Acaia catechu showed best results and was selected for further studies in preparation of antifouling agent.
