Russian food production will continue to grow
Significance This will represent the eleventh consecutive year of harvests exceeding 100 million tonnes. The harvest will comprise 83 million-86 million tonnes of wheat, down from 92 million tonnes in 2023. The 2024 harvest is a little smaller than last year due to a late freeze in the south in the spring. Impacts Agricultural production in Crimea is estimated to decline by about 19% in 2024 due to drought and war. In 2024, Russia moved into the top three global food exporters by volume and is likely to consolidate this position next year. The value of Russia’s agri-food exports to China has increased by nearly 53% this year, but the growth rate will likely slow next year.
