THE PROBLEM OF IDENTIFYING POTENTIAL URBAN SUB-CENTERS IN A POLYCENTRIC MODEL OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT

The progressive urbanization of modern large and largest cities forces residents of the city to spend a colossal amount of time and effort on traveling from home to work and back. Today it is already becoming obvious that the concept of "one city - one center" (monocentric model develop-ment) for large cities has outlived itself. The concept of polycentric development of cities is gaining authority and popularity, but a big problem in applying this concept is determining the location of potential city centers and their functionality. The article provides a way to solve this problem using methods of modeling traffic and pedestrian flows.

Abstract

The progressive urbanization of modern large and largest cities forces residents of the city to spend a colossal amount of time and effort on traveling from home to work and back. Today it is already becoming obvious that the concept of "one city - one center" (monocentric model develop-ment) for large cities has outlived itself. The concept of polycentric development of cities is gaining authority and popularity, but a big problem in applying this concept is determining the location of potential city centers and their functionality. The article provides a way to solve this problem using methods of modeling traffic and pedestrian flows.
