Analýza užití slovesa jít s oporou Českého národního korpusu
The objective of this study is to analyze the semantic evolution of the verb jít ‚to go‘ as an analytical predicate in contemporary Czech. It hypothesizes that jít ‚to go‘ is undergoing grammaticalization, losing its original motion-oriented meaning and acquiring modal and phase meanings akin to auxiliary verbs. Despite this, contemporary grammatical manuals do not classify it as such. Through corpus-based research on the Czech National Corpus, the hypothesis is examined by analyzing the 50 most common structures of jít ‚to go‘ + infinitive, encompassing 1342 concordance lines. The outcome is a catalog of these structures, elucidating the evolving meanings of jít ‚to go‘ (motion, modality, phase), and highlighting prevalent interpretations within these constructs.
