Design of a RFID Antenna with Uniform Near-Field Distribution and Low Far-Field Gain

A UHF RFID reader antenna for near-field applications is proposed in this paper which is based on two loop-ended microstrip (MS) meander lines. The antenna has six sections of MS meander line, two loop ends and one phase shifter, which is designed on a FR4. The permittivity of the substrate is 4.4mm and the thickness is 1 mm. The antenna size is 480 mm × 200 mm. Compared with the stub ends, the using of the loop ends achieves better uniform magnetic fields distribution. The simulated results are given and discussed.
