Optimal Replacement Policy for Wireless Sensor Networks Considering Loss

With recent technological innovations in sensing and measuring, wireless sensor networks are now widely used in many application domains. However, they face technical limitations, such as energy and memory constraints, limited processing power, and coverage reliability issues. Maintenance is an effective approach proposed in the literature to overcome these limitations, balancing cost and reliability. With the reliability evaluated concerning the D-spectrum at a scheduled number of sensor nodes, and the replacement period, the policy is optimized to maximize reliability and minimize the maintenance cost rate. This research considers the deterioration of the D-spectrum between the scheduled replacement periods and the losses due to the deterioration on a continuous time model. This extension aims to find an optimal replacement policy that minimizes replacement cost and loss per unit of time without compromising the reliability of wireless sensor networks.
