5G ORAN O-RU Emulator Implemented on the USRP SDR in the FR1 and FR3 Bands
A radio access network (RAN) is part of a mobile telecommunication system that includes a base-station (gNB) and a wireless handset (UE). There is an on-going effort to disaggregate the RAN in 5G/NR wireless communication systems into open, modular, flexible, and scalable components, called Open RAN (ORAN), which contains three primary components: Central Unit (CU); Distributed Unit (DU); and Radio Unit (RU). NI has developed an open-source 5G ORAN open Radio Unit (O-RU) Emulator which provides an open-source testbed and reference architecture for 5G wireless research, development, and prototyping. The O-RU Emulator is based on the USRP X410 software-defined radio (SDR) platform. In this demonstration, we will show the up-link and down-link operation of the O-RU Emulator, working with an O-DU, both in the FR1 and FR3 bands.
