A Network Connectivity Analysis of the Anglova Scenario

Network emulators and simulators play a vital role in developing and assessing communication solutions. The Anglova scenario was created by the NATO IST-124 Research Task Group and has become a valuable component of experimentation involving emulated tactical networking environments. For the purpose of experimentation and evaluation, it would be useful to have an understanding of the best possible performance that can be achieved by the protocol(s) or system(s) under evaluation for each specific scenario. For example, it would be important to understand the best possible connectivity that could be achieved by any routing protocol that is deployed over the Anglova scenario. To address this requirement, we define the concept of Theoretical Limits (TL) for network environments. Similar to mathematical upper bounds the TLs are based on scenario properties and represent values (e.g. delivery ratio) that cannot be surpassed by any specific protocol mechanisms or implementations. This value serves as an essential benchmark, enabling a thorough assessment of protocol strengths and weaknesses. In this study, we present our initial assessment of the connectivity TL in the Anglova scenario, employing two distinct approaches.
