Fast Risk Assessment for Power Systems Considering Cascading Failures: A State Similarity Method

Due to the immense computational burden, considering cascading failures (CF) in power systems during operation becomes highly challenging, especially for systems with a high proportion of renewable energy. To address this issue, this paper proposed a cascading failure risk assessment method based on state similarity (SS), effectively handling large-scale scenarios without reduction. The method employs multi-parameter programming to divide massive scenarios into different critical regions (CR). Utilize the topological features within the same critical region, referred to as similarity features, to simplify the analysis process. This approach transforms the complex iterative optimization problem into a set of linear equations in each CR, thereby improving computational efficiency. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through the IEEE 39-bus test system.
