The Event of Otherness: An Interview with James T. Siegel

Abstract: An interview with James Siegel in Aceh, Indonesia, in 2007. Aceh was the site of Siegel's doctoral research in the early 1960s, and he has returned there several times in the years since. The authors sent to some of Siegel's former students and colleagues requests for questions that could be put to Siegel in a sort of interview format. Those who responded with questions included Benedict Anderson, Rosalind Morris, John Pemberton, Pietro Pucci, Vicente Rafael, Danilyn Rutherford, and Andrew Willford. Siegel received the questions in advance so that he could prepare answers and select the sequence in which he answered them.
