Methodology for Deformation Studies Using Geodetic Methods
Abstract An integral part of the operation of facilities in the mining industry (in the Republic of Bulgaria, mainly open-pit mines are developed) are the control functions, including quantitative characteristics of the extracted bulk mass, deformation of the sides, etc. A possible approach to collect detailed information on the current state of the rock mass is geodetic mapping by remote sensing methods. The paper discusses the principles of cyclic geodetic measurements for quantifying displacements and velocities of discrete points, changes in volume and shape and dimensions of the observed array (deformation). Although the deformations are invariant to the coordinate system introduced and the deformation parameters are most accurately determined by “direct measurements”, the fact that there is no geodetic determination that is not defined in some coordinate system should be taken into account. in this regard, it is critical to define and implement a stable coordinate system that does not load the measured quantities defined in it with additional reductions.
