Effect of Hydrogen and Hydrogen Peroxide additions on combustion characteristics of jet fuel

Nowadays, promoting and intensifying the use of less polluting energy has received increased attention, to cover the carbon footprint, especially, due to the consumption of fossil fuels. In the transport sector, fuel requirements such as handling, safety issues, energy density, and onboard storage have confirmed that the liquid fuels will still dominate the near and mid-term future in application especially for high power density applications. Most research attention on alternative fuels has focused on the development of biofuels and the more direct approach for decarbonizing the fuel source based on hydrogen-enriched hydrocarbon fuels for a complete and efficient oxidation, in devices working by combustion process such air-breathing propulsion system and internal combustion engines. The latter shows a great potential in addressing environmental issues, considerable promise in terms of the key technical issues and improvement of fuel economy. In view of these points, hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide is promising fuels. An investigation is conducted to probe and compare the effect of H2 and H2O2 additions on the fundamental combustion characteristics of n-decane as a single component surrogate for jet fuel. It is found that the increased volumetric fraction of H2 and H2O2 as substituent to the removed partial fraction of air at varying equivalence ratios and pressures had an effect very interesting in some practical application for performance improvement with lower structure change, cost, consumption, and reduced pollutant emissions.
