Pemetaan Profil Potensi Unnecessary Exposure pada Pasien CT-Scan dan Radiografi Umum di Indonesia

Unnecessary exposure is very detrimental and has the potential to add radiation risk to patients. In the field of diagnostic radiology, unnecessary exposure conditions are difficult to detect because the impact on patients is not directly observed (does not directly cause injury). Prevention and efforts to minimize the potential for unnecessary exposure must be preceded by identifying the magnitude of the potential for unnecessary exposure. One effective and proven tool for identifying the magnitude of the potential for unnecessary exposure is to apply the diagnostic reference level (DRL). Until now, Indonesia has not had a national profile regarding the potential for unnecessary exposure in patient examinations using radiation in diagnostic radiology. This paper aims to provide an Indonesian profile regarding the potential for unnecessary exposure in diagnostic radiology, especially CT-Scan and General Radiography. The method for this study is quantitative, with descriptive retrospective analysis carried out through the collection, grouping, statistical analysis, and review of patient dose data for CT-Scan and General Radiography obtained through the Si-INTAN application during the last 3 years, namely from 2021 to 2023. The results indicated the potential for unnecessary exposure at 37.90% on contrast chest CT examination. Meanwhile, General Radiography examinations occurred in 12 of the 22 types of examinations, ranging from -59.92% to 110.46%. These results indicate that the potential for unnecessary exposure is still high, which means that radiation protection on CT-Scan and General Radiography still needs to be optimally implemented. In this regard, BAPETEN needs to encourage efforts to optimize medical exposure in diagnostic radiology facilities to ensure the safety of radiology patients. Keywords: unnecessary exposure, diagnostic reference level, optimization of radiation protection, medical exposure, diagnostic radiology.
