EUPHEMISMS AND DYSPHEMISMS IN THE FRAMEWORK OF LINGUISTIC PRAGMATICS (based on contemporary Ukrainian literature)
The article analyzes the phenomena of euphemism and dysphemism based on the texts of contemporary Ukrainian authors. Given the current publishing trends, we observe an increase in the number of publications, particularly by novice authors, whose works contain defining features important for analysis. Fifteen novels have been analyzed, and the research concerning them allows us to assert that euphemization and dysphemization are characteristic phenomena of Ukrainian artistic discourse. Within the article, 287 euphemisms and 219 dysphemisms have been identified. Euphemisms and dysphemisms are defined as indirect speech acts (according to the theory and classification of J. Austin) and are studied within the framework of pragmatic linguistics. This approach enables a comprehensive analysis of the selected phenomena, as the use of implicatures as elements of hidden, additional, non-verbalized meaning is often traced, as well as presuppositions that refer to shared, already known information within the message.
