Evaluation of the risk of developing colorectal cancer in the general public: a cross-sectional study

To analyze the risks of developing colorectal neoplasms in the general population. This is a descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. The study was directed to the virtual environment to reach a representative number of participants. The target population of the research was the general population. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS®) version 20.0 software was used for tabulation, analysis and interpretation of the collected data. It is noteworthy that 130 (60.5%) of the individuals investigated had a low risk of developing cancer. Factors such as 60 years of age or older, black race/ethnicity and schooling up to elementary school, obesity grade II, presence of inflammatory bowel disease, consumption of red meat, alcohol, tobacco, milk and dairy products, non-consumption of multivitamins, whole grains , fruits and vegetables, and physical inactivity were correlated with risk of developing CRC. It should be noted that it is essential that society has a better understanding of this neoplasm, especially in relation to risk exposure factors, since colorectal cancer has significant mortality rates, thus contributing to the compression of the mechanisms correlated to the emergence of the disease. pathological process and its forms of prevention and mitigation.
