A Simplified Estimation of Spindle Dynamic Compliance From Current Measurement for Contactless Electromagnetic Excitation

Abstract Dynamic stiffness during spindle rotation is important in the performance evaluation of machine tools. A method for measuring dynamic compliance, which is the reciprocal of dynamic stiffness, using a load generator in uniaxial and unidirectional was investigated. An electromagnetic force generation model was experimentally constructed using static coil current and load measurements. Using this model, the vibratory force was calculated. The excitation conditions without gap effect were set, and the dynamic compliance was estimated by conducting actual vibration experiments. The estimated dynamic compliance was in good agreement with the dynamic compliance obtained from the force measurement, indicating that the proposed method can perform the measurement efficiently.
