Tools for the incremental deformation of sheet metal using a single point. presentation of an innovative new tool

Abstract. Incremental forming with a punch is a process of processing metal sheets in continuous development, due to the low cost of the tools and the possibility of its application on numerically controlled machines. Since many tool models have recently been developed for processing sheet metal by incremental forming, their choice is difficult. This article aims to present a brief synthesis of the types of tools proposed and tested by researchers for incremental forming, highlighting the usage fields and the advantages and disadvantages of their use. The presentation of the kinds of tools together with the specific performances associated with the different materials and geometric shapes of the processed parts, facilitates their optimal choice to obtain the desired part so that it meets the functional characteristics prescribed by the designer. Another purpose of this article is to present a new innovative tool with a specific geometry, which will enhance the single-point incremental forming process and the quality of the resulting parts.
