A Ka-band miniaturized flexible conformal frequency selective surface radome
In this paper, a miniaturized flexible conformal bandpass frequency selective surface (FSS) radome operating in Ka-band is proposed, which consists of "Y"-shaped slit cells arranged periodically. This FSS offers several advantages including small thickness, light weight, simple manufacturing methods, low cost, and easy conformation. The parameters of the surface elements are fully characterised and it is ensured that the tolerances introduced by the fabrication are small on their performance. For the purpose of facilitating the conformal processing of the FSS, The inner dielectric substrate is made of flexible printed circuit board. In addition, the proposed design is simulated to ensure a consistent response when encountering changes in the angle of incidence in the TE/TM polarisation mode. Experimental results demonstrate that the conformal band-pass FSS radome effectively suppresses out-of-band signals while causing minimal impact on in-band signals, demonstrating pronounced band-pass characteristics.
