A motion error compensation method for phase-shifting profilometry based on principal component analysis

Fringe projection phase-shifting profilometry is widely used in defect detection and reverse engineering due to its high precision and non-contact characteristics. However, phase-shifting profilometry remains a challenge for the measurement of dynamic scenes due to continuous projection. In this work, we propose a motion error compensation method based on principal component analysis (PCA), which is capable of estimating the motion of object, eliminating the phase error introduced by motion, and realizing high-precision phase retrieval. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can perform high-quality 3D reconstruction of an object moving in any direction, and the measurement accuracy is better than 80 um.
