OAIS CASE STUDY: A COMPARISON OF THE NUVOLO SOFTWARE PLATFORM USING THE “AUDIT AND CERTIFICATION OF TRUSTWORTHY DIGITAL REPOSITORIES, RECOMMENDED PRACTICE”

This case study provides a qualitative assessment using the standards within the “Audit and Certification of Trustworthy Digital Repositories, Recommended Practice” (CCSDS 652.0-M-1) and the Integrated Workplace Management Software (IWMS) called Nuvolo. The CCSDS 652.0-M-1 is an implementation of the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) reference model. This comparison evaluates the Nuvolo Facilities Management application within the IWMS suite. An IWMS includes a comprehensive information management function relevant to sustaining long-term databases like a repository. Can ISO 16363 metrics be used to assess non-repository database applications? The focus of this comparison is to decide where the OAIS recommendations that are listed in ISO 16363 are best applied to a cloud-hosted application like Nuvolo. The analysis also provides a study of the ServiceNow platform's viability as a compliant host for digital repositories under the current standards.
