FRENECTOMIA LINGUAL EM ODONTOPEDIATRIA: RELATO DE CASO NA FACULDADE METROPOLITANA DE RONDÔNIA
Lingual frenectomy is a surgical procedure commonly used to correct ankyloglossia, a condition also known as “tongue-tie”. This condition is characterized by limited tongue mobility due to a shortened or thickened lingual frenulum, which can impact several oral functions, such as speech, swallowing, chewing and, in newborns, breastfeeding. When left untreated, ankyloglossia can impair a child’s development and compromise important aspects of their quality of life. In this context, this study aims not only to report a clinical case of ankyloglossia treatment, but also to analyze the impact of frenectomy on the functional development of the tongue and the patient’s general well-being. In addition to describing the diagnosis and treatment performed, the research seeks to address the results achieved, with special attention to improving tongue functionality. The study will be conducted at the Dental Clinic of the Metropolitan College of Rondônia, where the case of a pediatric patient who will undergo frenectomy will be analyzed, with parental supervision and supervision by an interdisciplinary team of professionals. Surgery is expected to provide anatomical and functional improvements, but for these benefits to be full and lasting, speech therapy will be an essential part of the recovery process. In summary, the expected results indicate that frenectomy should provide significant gains in tongue functionality. However, in many cases, multidisciplinary treatment is crucial to optimize these results, especially in terms of speech development and complete adaptation to new oral functions.
