Novel concept of quiz in advancing anaesthesia education – Insights from IJA
In the ever-evolving field of anaesthesia, continuous learning and up-to-date knowledge are paramount. At the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia (IJA), we recognise the importance of ongoing education and initiated a weekly quiz based on monthly published IJA issues to enhance anaesthesiologists’ professional development. These weekly quizzes are designed to test and reinforce knowledge derived from the latest articles published in the IJA.[1] The necessity for such quizzes arises from our speciality’s dynamic and rapidly evolving nature. They bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by encouraging practitioners to engage deeply with content. Quizzes emphasise key takeaways rather than minor points, making them more accessible for all participants. There has been a measurable increase in readership metrics [Figure 1], illustrating their impact on engagement and readership of the journal, though the quizzes focus primarily on main concepts rather than minor details.Figure 1: Readership metrics/reach of IJA articles over timeThe quizzes are carefully designed based on IJA’s published articles and focus on comprehension, application, and critical thinking. They are delivered through user-friendly digital platforms such as Google Forms, providing participants with instant feedback. Review and original articles are prioritised due to their significant educational value. Challenges include ensuring that quiz questions accurately reflect the core messages of the articles, keeping participants engaged over time, and resolving technical issues such as quiz link stability. To streamline the user experience, we have implemented a single, stable quiz link.[2] In conclusion, IJA’s quizzes play a pivotal role in advancing anaesthesia education. They contribute to the continuous professional development of practitioners by reinforcing content and encouraging a deeper engagement with the journal’s articles.
