A Wideband HMSIW Leaky-Wave Antenna With Crossed and Mirrored Slots for Two Stop-Band Suppression

This article proposes a wideband Half Mode Sub-strate Integrated Waveguide (HMSIW) leaky-wave antenna that utilizes crossed and mirrored slot elements to suppress two stop-bands. The antenna eliminates two band-stop regions by using crossed and mirrored slots. It operates in a broad band of approximately 68%, ranging from 5.6 to 11.4 GHz. The antenna has a total beam scanning capacity of 106 degrees, ranging from <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$-53^{\circ}$</tex> to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$+53^{\circ}$</tex>. Its side lobe levels are relatively low, with an average of −13 dB. The antenna is an attractive choice for next-generation wireless communication applications, as it is capable of operating within the C band to X band.
