Improving the Accuracy of Acoustic Emission Sources Linear Location Based on Constructing the Acoustic Signal Envelope Via the Hilbert Transform

This paper addresses the methodological aspects of constructing acoustic emission (AE) sources linear localizations. At the solving the problem initial stage, a series of experimental studies were conducted to determine the average relative standard localization algorithm error. To reduce the error in determining the AE event sources coordinates, the authors propose an algorithm for refining the acoustic signal registration time, the basis of constructing the envelope of the acoustic emission pulse via the Hilbert transform. The proposed approach was validated through the linear location of AE sources generated via a Su-Nielsen simulator. To minimize the influence of the electronic path phase-frequency characteristics on the AE pulse parameters, the acoustic signals were recorded with a dual-channel oscilloscope at a sampling rate of f<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">s</inf> = 200 MHz. A comparison of the standard and proposed algorithms reveled that the average reduced error in constructing the linear location decreased from 5.7% to 1.8%.
