Optimal Scheduling and Sizing of Battery Energy Storage System in an Industrial Microgrid
This research aims to optimize an operation and economic efficiency of an industrial microgrid by focusing on two primary objectives: identifying the most cost-effective electricity, operating, and maintenance schedules, and determining the optimal battery size for industrial microgrid implementation. These objectives are set against the backdrop of challenges such as over-integration of renewable energy (RE) sources, which can lead to inefficiencies and reliability issues, and the need to enhance battery energy storage system (BESS) performance to ensure stability and responsiveness to demand fluctuations. Through rigorous analysis and optimization techniques, this study successfully addresses these problems by developing strategies that significantly reduce energy expenses for industrial facilities. The optimization outcomes demonstrate how strategic scheduling and sizing of a microgrid, and BESS can lead to more efficient use of renewables, minimizing reliance on the grid during peak demand periods. Consequently, the research contributes valuable insights into achieving economic and operational efficiency in industrial microgrid systems, promoting a sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure.
