Design and Development of a Pet Rehabilitation Cage Based on Instrumentation Measurement and Internet of Things

Monitoring cat health is essential for all cat owners, especially when cats show mild symptoms of illness or are in post-treatment or post-surgery rehabilitation. This ensures the cat's condition and health are well-monitored. Sick cats should be separated from healthy ones to prevent disease transmission. Regular cages, often used for sick cats, are inadequate as they don't allow optimal monitoring, especially when owners are away, and their open design permits interaction between sick and healthy cats, increasing the risk of disease spread. To address this, an innovative Pet Rehabilitation Cage based on Measurement Instruments and IoT was developed. This cage's primary function is to monitor cats during initial observation and post-treatment rehabilitation. It connects in real-time via an Android app, allowing remote monitoring. Its closed, transparent design prevents disease transmission among cats. Features include weight sensors, temperature and humidity sensors, food and water indicators, UV lights, litter box indicators, and supply and exhaust fans for air circulation and heating. The cage uses three types of sensors: two single-point sensors, two HC-SR04 ultrasonic, and a DHT-22. Based on the validation results, 1 Kg load cell sensor has an accuracy of 97.15% and error of 2.85%, while 10 Kg load cell sensor has an accuracy of 97.40% and an error of 2.6%. DHT-22 sensor has an accuracy of 97.72% and an error of 2.16%. Ultrasonic water sensor has an accuracy of 97.7% and an error of 2.3%, while ultrasonic litter box sensor has an accuracy of 98.5% and an error of 1.5%.
