Development of Rice Storage Box with Parameters Monitoring and Automatic Discharge Outlet

Proper rice storage will prevent rice from damage caused by temperature, humidity, as well as pest and microorganism attack which can degrade its quality. Also, information of the remaining rice volume in the storage and automated discharge feature will be useful for daily use. The objective of this article is to develop a household scale rice storage box which has temperature, humidity, and rice volume indicator monitoring as well as rice discharge features. The storage box was developed based on NodeMCU microcontroller, DHT11 sensor, HCSR 04 sensor, and servo motor. Temperature measurement tests showed that the measurement results using the developed system have a difference in readings of 0.1-0.4 °C with an average percentage error of 0.75 °C and the results of a difference in Humidity readings of 4–5 %RH with an average percentage error 6.49% compared to measurement results using a commercial thermometer. The test results for measuring the rice volume indicator in the rice storage box show that if the storage container is empty then the gauge on the rice volume shows a value of 0%, if the box contains 450 grams of rice the display shows 8%, if the box contains 600 grams of rice the display shows 13%, and if it contains 900 grams of rice the display shows 17%. Rice discharge testing shows that the weight of rice released by the system has a difference of between 1–11% compared to the weighing results using commercial weighing equipment.
