Design Analysis of Brushless Direct Current Motors Made of Copper and Aluminum Conductors For Better Performance and Cost-Effectiveness
The adoption of electric motorcycles in Indonesia has lagged behind global trends, necessitating research into more efficient and cost-effective solutions. This study explores the use of copper and aluminum conductors in brushless direct current (BLDC) motors, aiming to enhance performance and reduce costs. We evaluated key performance indicators such as temperature, rotational speed, torque, power output, and efficiency. Copper conductors demonstrated superior performance, achieving higher rotational speeds (3636 rpm) and torque (20.2 Nm), but they also resulted in significantly higher operating temperatures (354°C). Conversely, aluminum conductors, while slightly less efficient (3620 rpm, 19.33 Nm), operated at a much lower temperature (34°C) and offered substantial advantages in terms of weight and cost. These findings indicate that aluminum is a viable alternative for large-scale motor applications, particularly where cost and weight are critical factors. The study's outcomes contribute to the advancement of BLDC motor technology, potentially accelerating the adoption of electric motorcycles in Indonesia.
