Welcome Message from the General Chairs

On behalf of the Organising Committee, we welcome you to Slovenia! The event in Portorož follows a successful event in Malta, the first outside and on another side of Italy. The 2024 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea (MetroSea 2024) will take place at the Hotel St. Bernardin, between the two important institutions supporting this meeting, the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport of the University of Ljubljana, the launch pad for young seafarers, and the National Institute of Biology in Piran, the only Slovenian institution that studies the sea and monitors its quality. The remains of the former monastery consist of a well-preserved and significant bell tower, the presbytery of the church and the retaining wall with arches. The use of this building dates back to the 15th century and is dedicated to St Bernardine of Siena. The activities in the monastery ended in the 19th century and the Austrian Army later used the complex as a fortress from which the soldiers defended the bay. The hotel serves as a prestigious setting for the organisation of international conferences, seminars, short courses - and holidays.
