Image Enhancement Using Color Balance and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization
Low contrast images pose challenges in various applications, from surveillance to medical imaging. In this paper, an image enhancement scheme is proposed that combines Color Balance and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) techniques to address this issue. This approach aims to improve both visual quality and quantitative metrics such as entropy and average gradient. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is evaluated on a dataset of low contrast images and the results are compared with existing enhancement methods. The visual quality assessment, along with objective metrics, demonstrates the significant enhancement achieved by our approach, making it a promising solution for improving the usability of low contrast images in real-world applications.
