On the Elasto-Optic Constants of Linear Isotropic Dielectrics

This paper presents an analysis of photoelasticity theory as applied to linear isotropic dielectrics. Based on fundamental relations, an expression for the elasto-optic constant as a function of dielectric susceptibility is derived. Formulas for calculating the elasto-optic constant are provided for three phases of dielectrics, relying solely on the dielectric constant. Additionally, the maximum value of the elasto-optic constant for the specified media is estimated.

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of photoelasticity theory as applied to linear isotropic dielectrics. Based on fundamental relations, an expression for the elasto-optic constant as a function of dielectric susceptibility is derived. Formulas for calculating the elasto-optic constant are provided for three phases of dielectrics, relying solely on the dielectric constant. Additionally, the maximum value of the elasto-optic constant for the specified media is estimated.
