Smart Walking Assistance for Visually Impaired People
Blindness significantly obstructs a person's ability to navigate unfamiliar environments independently, impacting their ability to perform various tasks and responsibilities. Vision impairment is defined as having a visual acuity of 20/200 or worse in the better-seeing eye, even with optimal correction. Individuals with vision impairments rely on external assistance, which can come from people, guide dogs, or advanced technological devices, to make better decisions. To address these challenges, we propose a lightweight device that processes signals and alerts visually impaired individuals to obstacles, potholes, smoke, or water pools using distinct vibrating patterns. Additionally, the device includes a GPS module, enabling users to share their location for enhanced safety and assistance.
