Finite Element Method to Analyze the Impact of Damping on Transmissibility for LAPAN-A4 Satellite
The analysis of the payload structures in satellites is critical to guarantee stability as well in various working conditions. In this paper, we conduct a comparison study on the transmissibility aspects of the undamped versus hysteresis-damped payload structures on LAPAN-A4 satellite using Finite Element Method (FEM). The goal is to determine how damping affects the dynamic response of the satellite's payload. This is a major consideration in reducing the high transmitted force in the payload's structure of LAP AN A-4 satellite, because the higher the transmission force will increase the potential of structural failure. To achieve this, a finite element model (FEM) of the LAP AN-A4 satellite payload structure was created by considering undamped and damped condition. Transmissibility function, which calculates the ratio of output and input displacement amplitudes or acceleration over a frequency range. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the structure are confirmed through modal analysis. The transmissibility functions obtained from FEM simulations are then compared to see the response of various damping ratios to dynamic behavior. The results indicate that the undamped structure has a transmissibility value approximately 54.1% higher in mode 4 (203.1 Hz) and 54.7% higher in mode 6 (234.7 Hz) at its natural frequency compared to the damped structures. This comparative analysis highlights the significance of external damping mechanisms in the design of satellite payload structures.
