Design and Development of a 3D Object Imaging System Using Biaxial LiDAR with a Combined Motor Servo

3D LiDAR for object imaging systems is a highly promising technology in the future. However, developing LiDAR technology becomes exceedingly challenging and costly. This is particularly true for LiDAR systems based on MEMS, optomechanical, and solid-state technologies. This paper presents a cost-effective 3D object imager using biaxial LiDAR with real-time visualization capabilities. A biaxial LiDAR was selected because it easily finds a prototype and widespread manufacture. It is feasible to explore the key technology of 3D LiDAR by integrating the concepts of a mechanically rotational laser range finder with a combined motor servo, moving the laser in two directions, controlling the operation, and processing data into an image.
