User-Centered Design of a Seasonal Calendar App for Women: Insights from a Case Study in India

This study examines the potential of mobile tech-nology to support and enhance the livelihoods of rural women in India by focusing on the user-centric design and evaluation of a Seasonal Calendar mobile application. Drawing on a case study from two villages in Kerala, India, this research highlights the importance of incorporating traditional knowledge and user feedback in the development of digital tools for marginalized communities. The Seasonal Calendar app, a digitized version of a traditional agricultural planning tool, was found to be well-received by rural women, who appreciated its user-friendly interface, accessibility, and alignment with local seasonal patterns. The app's ability to convey seasonal information and facilitate decision-making was also positively evaluated. The findings underscore the potential of technology to bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and modern tools, ultimately contributing to the empowerment and well-being of rural women in India. This study offers valuable insights for future research and development of digital interventions that effectively address the unique needs and challenges faced by women in agricultural communities.
