Transforming Checkpoints Experiences: Efficient Check-in and Check-out with Automatic Number Plate Recognition and Mobile App Integration

Traditional vehicle entry processes at checkpoints often rely on manual confirmation of entry details by security personnel, leading to potential human errors and inefficiencies. This paper addresses these challenges by proposing an automatic check-in/check-out system utilizing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. When a vehicle approaches the checkpoint, its number plate is captured by CCTV cameras, and ANPR algorithms automatically identify and store the plate number in a database for registration and surveillance purposes. This eliminates the need for manual data entry, enhances security, and reduces personnel effort. The system also offers benefits such as improved parking management and traffic monitoring. Furthermore, in line with the government's initiative to address increasing traffic on urban roads and congestion due to inadequate parking spaces, this paper suggests the establishment of public parking spots equipped with the proposed smart check-in/check-out system. These parking spots, managed through a mobile application, would enable users to easily locate available parking slots, receive tokens for entry, and seamlessly exit after their parking duration. This integrated approach not only addresses traffic congestion but also enhances convenience for urban commuters and mitigates the problem of blocked lanes caused by indiscriminate parking.
