Digital Technology and the Empowerment of Indian Women Micro-Entrepreneurs
The latest technological advancements are transforming women's entrepreneurship in India. This research aims to identify how technology supports Indian women micro-entrepreneurs to run their businesses by overcoming resource constraints and gendered barriers. The cases of four digital technologies that shaped the Indian market recently are analyzed in this research. The findings indicate that government initiatives like SEWA ESS and WEP support rural women with limited education through digital financial inclusion, mentoring, and training programs whereas UPI payments enable them to reach larger markets. E-commerce platforms like Meesho facilitate women entrepreneurs to run their businesses in rural and semi-urban areas by creating home-based and flexible work models. Women's entrepreneurship in India can be supported further by addressing the gap in digital literacy and access to resources.
