Topology Reconstruction of Fully Blind Power Distribution Networks Using Natural Transient Disturbances

Fully blind distribution networks lack topology and internal monitoring data, commonly found in poorly managed underdeveloped areas. This hampers network control and integration of distributed energy sources. Past researches relying on historical or internal node monitoring fail to address this issue directly. This paper propose a novel method utilizing natural transient disturbances. It extracts transient responses from edge nodes, establishing shared cable length arrays based on disturbance propagation. Numerical relationships within these arrays construct the backbone branch matrix. Further, unbranched variable-cross-section nodes are identified using second-order reflection distortion points of disturbances, reconstructing the complete topology. Testing on a real 10kV network confirms the method's effectiveness in topology reconstruction, while also providing cable lengths and cross-sectional areas for each branch. This method offers a potential solution to the new challenge of fully blind distribution network topology reconstruction.
