Software for Visualization of Cellular Automata Models in Traffic Flow Analysis
The paper focuses on creating software for visualization of traffic flows simulated with the help of cellular automata. The presented visualization system named TrafficFlowViz3D enables studying traffic dynamics, generating vehicle behavior scenarios, identifying bottlenecks and jams, and also investigating various traffic management measures for further optimization. The code is developed using the cross-platform Unity 3D engine. The Nagel-Schreckenberg model generalized for heterogeneous flows on multi-lane highways underlies the program. Constructing lattices of arbitrary sizes with different cell shapes in 3D space is possible for a comprehensive study of transport systems with complex road geometry. The program is equipped with a graphical interface that allows users to set initial system parameters and obtain important traffic statistics. The paper considers in detail the class architecture proposed for the efficient implementation and visualization of the model. Application of the A* algorithm and its interaction with the Nagel-Schreckenberg model are also discussed. Some test predictions are analyzed to verify the developed software and confirm its high capabilities.
