The Effect on Commutation Failure of Large Capacity HVDC Receiving Terminal With Excitation System of the Flexibility Modification Generator
This paper establishes the excitation structure and model for a flexibility-modified generator and derives the mathematical mechanism for calculating the rotating reactive power of a synchronous generator. By creating a PSCAD simulation environment at the HVDC load center terminal, the corresponding extreme grid potential during an unsuccessful commutation of the HVDC converter station is identified. Using a detailed excitation system model of the synchronous generator within the simulation, the support provided by the flexibility-modified generator's excitation structure during the unsuccessful commutation at the load center is demonstrated.
