The Development of a Drone Capable of Transporting Humanitarian Aid During an Emergency
Drones are highly effective at assessing disaster damage and revolutionizing the impact on disaster response. Due to various economic and social factors, the use of drones is becoming more common among civilians and corporations. With improvements in drone technology, drones are expected to spread throughout the transportation sector, which will also help disaster relief efforts. In times of crisis, it is essential to move humanitarian aid quickly from one place to another. Drones will be capable of providing aid to disaster victims due to their solid and durable build, relatively low costs, high payload capacity, and minimal need for infrastructure. This work aims to build a drone from scratch capable of transporting humanitarian aid from one place to another. An autonomous delivery drone capable of delivering upto ten kilograms and navigating with the help of a Global Positioning System (GPS) is designed. This paper describes our choice of components, design decisions, and mission (flight) planning.
