VOKAL PERFORMANSLARDA KANUN SAZININ ROLÜ: SELANİK TÜRKÜSÜ

This study aims to discuss the findings obtained by analysing the role of the qanun, which has an important place in Turkish music, in vocal performances through the example of "Selanik Folk Song". Within the scope of the research, the melodic and rhythmic contributions of the qanun to vocal performances were examined from both technical and aesthetic perspectives. The lyrics, rhythmic structure and maqam features of the work "Selanik Folk Song" were analysed using the qualitative research method and document scanning. The findings obtained show that the kanun provides harmony and expressive power to vocal performances with its rich timbre and wide vocal range features. In the performance of "Selanik Folk Song", which was examined as a sample, it is seen that the qanun instrument increases the emotional effect of the vocal by providing melodic ornaments, arpeggios and rhythmic supports to the work. In the study, the rich harmonic structure of the qanun instrument and its function in Turkish music with technical skills were discussed in detail. The research in question emphasizes the importance of the accompaniment role of the qanun instrument in Turkish music and provides information that can be a resource for musicologists and performers. As a result, it shows that the qanun instrument provides an aesthetic and technical balance as an accompanying instrument in vocal performances, and with these features, it can be considered an important accompanying instrument in Turkish music performance.
