Development of a Synchronous Generator Simulation Model for Small and Distributed Energy Facilities

Autonomous power supply systems have become widespread in Russia and abroad. Most often, these systems use generators with internal combustion engines – diesel, gas piston, etc.; the energy of renewable energy resources is also used. As a rule, these installations are equipped with synchronous generators (SG) of various types. One of the key tasks arising in designing and operating autonomous power supply systems is the development of mathematical models of generators. The article considers the operation of a synchronous generator (SG) with known parameters and a given load. A structural diagram of the SG model in a new original form is presented, using which in-depth studies of the SG electromagnetic and electromechanical transients can be studied, including those in closed-loop systems of automatic excitation and prime mover speed control. A distinctive feature of the proposed structure is the use of coordinate transformations, which makes it possible to model various generator loads, including non-standard ones. The article presents the results from comparison of transients of an autonomous SG without automatic excitation control obtained on mathematical and physical models. The obtained results confirm sufficiently high accuracy of the initial equations describing the model.
