Governance mechanisms of correctional facilities through the “execution progression’ system”

In this work, criminal and correctional legislation were addressed concerning the categories of penitentiaries and the detention regimes for each penitentiary. The problems related to establishing the penitentiary category by the court and the possibility of assigning this competence exclusively to the prison administration system, or the creation of a mixed system, were highlighted. Placing a person in detention presupposes achieving the purpose of punishment - social security and changing inmate behavior. The accomplishment of this goal can only be ensured within the framework of an individualized operational process of sentence execution, based on the prisoner’s personality, behavior, psycho-social and integration needs, and recuperative availability.
