Analysis of a Medium Voltage Direct Current Distribution System for Integration of an Electric Vehicle Ultrafast Charging Station: A Case Study

The decarbonization of road transport has a potential of reducing about 28 % of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions [1]. Consequently, countries around the world are using the transition to electric vehicles as an opportunity to reduce their GHG emissions and honour their obligations to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement. This paper presents a case study for the technical feasibility of using a medium voltage direct current (MVDC) distribution system for the electrification of battery electric vehicle (BEV) ultrafast charging stations (UFCS). In this study, an MVDC line of 215 km length is modelled to connect a battery energy storage system (BESS) as a source for the electrification of an EV UFCS.
